How to improve on a good thing: Add more of it

People have quite rightly gone nuts for Face of Australia's Lip Quench line, though it's glory has managed to consistently pass me by - the stand is always picked clean and when I was sent one to try a while back (thank you...) I couldn't do much with it because brown is not my color. Whose color is it? I'm still puzzling over this.

So when FOA expanded their LipQuench line and sent two new colors to me for inspection, I was torn. On one hand - ooh! Pretty pink Peaches & Cream! On the other hand: Hmm, Mocha Latte. That's looking remarkably brown.

Interesting how different colors in lipstick sweat - these photos were taken a day after opening, and I assume in the postal process they got a bit warm. P&C is untouched, Mocha Latte is sweating and cracking. That said, there was absolutely no difference in performance and the effect was purely cosmetic (see what I did there?).

Here's Peaches & Cream, which is definitely a color I don't wear of my own accord often. It's quite a dense, opaque lipstick, and smells wonderfully like Barbie makeup. You know, when you bought plastic dolls in the 80s and they came with a free highly dubious lipstick, which regardless smelt wonderful? That smell.

And this is Mocha Latte, and before someone picks me up on it, yes, I have photoshop-blurred around my mouth. it's still bloody summer and I cannot stop my stupid noggin from sweating. It's a pain. It's also a pretty terrible touch up, but I'd probably prefer that it's obvious.
Back to the subject at hand - I actually really like this. It's natural and not massively far from my real lip color. It needs a light touch since thick brown lipstick has a very definite effect that isn't fun. I'd probably pair this with some light gloss - it's not really matte or shimmer, but I think an additional gloss layer would me-ify it.

If you've played with the LipQuenchs before, you'll know the pluses and don't need me to sell you on them.  I certainly know a fair few fine ladies who look fantastic in a pale pink lipstick and I would definitely suggest to them that the pink is worth a look. But for those (like myself) who have a blanket-reluctance towards brown lipstick - swatch it and see for yourself. It isn't a very standard brown, and I think I'll get some wear out of mine.

Thanks to the glorious wenches at FOA for sending me lovely things!

  1. Ooooh, Mocha Latte!

I actually kinda like browns on me, they're dramatic but more socially acceptable than black ;)

I've actually only tried the FOA mascara, and I quite liked it, so I've no idea why I haven't gone back for more stuff! Shall do so when I'm not broke. That could be a while since Oz Comic-con's next weekend...

  2. I would not have gone near Mocha Latte - I have a very rational fear of browns (poo is brown therefore why would I want to look like a poo??); however, this looks fantastic on, and not at all brown!

  3. Mocha Latte looks like a colour I would wear all the time. I'm trying hard to move away from brown and nude lipsticks but keep coming back to them! Lucky you getting things sent you from FOA!!!

  5. Ooh I think I will be picking up both of these, I have a feeling Mocha Latte would go beautifully with some of my nude glosses!
