Now I'll be the first to admit that Fashion blogging and Beauty blogging are not one and the same, and there appears to be surprisingly little overlap between the two. Regardless - I'm a little bemused by such obvious sour grapes. I suppose it must be difficult to be working in a dying medium, the poor cupcake.

Because journo's don't get given products in exchange for a plug....
ReplyDeleteI feel like magazines are *less* honest than blogs generally speaking (obviously not all blogs are good, but that's that). I've never read a negative beauty review in a magazine, have you? Admittedly, I don't read many fashion mags, though, but I have a hard time believing one needs special qualifications to have opinions on whether clothes look nice.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, very obvious sour grapes.
This is just more us vs them bullshit. There is more than enough space in fashion, beauty, design, whatever for both journalists operating in traditional media and those doing it as a hobby or even a small business online. The journalists can write their stories that people pick up the paper and read or click online to see (because not everyone reads blogs) and those bloggers who want to do nothing more than photograph outfits can do that too.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes me cranky isn't the attack on blogging but the ongoing innuendo designed only to create division between new media and old.
Also, that gif is the most perfect end to that post ever.
Hah! Your last comment paired with that gif expressed exactly what I was thinking.
ReplyDeleteHaha, what a tool!
ReplyDeleteLove the GIF.

Gif WIN. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love that he talks about the lack of "journalistic credentials"...get effed, idiot - I don't think anyone's labouring under the impression that one needs to be an ACTUAL journalist in order to blog! Possibly that's part of the whole point - not to mention a goodly part of its appeal!
Meanwhile, he IS an ACTUAL journalist...so where's his excuse?
Dickhead.
Glad you posted this - I was pretty pissed off when I saw the article!! Well... maybe not pissed off, but very "UH, WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?" even though I have the fashion sense of a drowned camel dressed head to toe in double denim... I just couldn't believe that they could be so snarky.
ReplyDeleteThere's room for everyone...
